It’s the first day of July! I really wanted to start blogging more so I thought I’d make a blogging challenge. Some days I don’t feel as inspired and I don’t know what to write about. So a blog challenge is perfect. 🙂 I’m working on some bigger projects, but those take some time. So, for now, I’ll be making shorter blog posts following my new 2017 July Blog Challenge schedule! Join me if you’d like.
Day One: A hobby: how and why did you start it?
I have always loved photography! I grew up in a lower income family so I didn’t have access to a camera until I was in high-school. My parents had a really cheap point-and-shoot type of camera for family events and my grandpa’s old broken SLR camera.
I fell in love with photography immediately. I love how looking through the lens you can see things that aren’t there in real life. You can focus on the beauty of a scene without being distracted by what’s around you. I love how a camera can capture a micro expression of one of my children that would have gone by too quickly without the camera. Cameras are magical to me. I create the world through my lens. Social media has taught us that. What you see in the photo isn’t always real life. But does that matter? I can create beauty with a click of my finger. I can cause people on the other side of the world to experience the world through my eyes. I think that it’s wonderful.
My first camera was a big shock to me. My parents bought me a really nice film camera before I went on a trip in college. I was not expecting that at all. I wanted a film camera because back in my college years digital ones were just starting to get better, but overall, I thought that I could get much better, crisper, photos from the film camera. Plus I loved how it made that amazing click sound when I hit the button!
The photo above is my mission trip to Cambodia 2004. I was still learning some photography basics, but it’s not a bad photo. Since then I took an intro digital photography class in college. I now know all about shutter speeds, ISOs, and all that cool stuff.
One of my favorite things to do with photography now is edit it. What would you all like to know about editing photos in Lightroom? I’m pretty good at it now. 🙂
Well, that’s a little bit about one of my hobbies. Thanks for reading! Please join the July 2017 Blog Challenge!
